Stop accidental purchases on Roku
Roku's PIN is a 4-digit number. Once it is on, the TV asks for it before anyone subscribes, rents, buys, or adds a new app with your Roku account.
Good to know: you set this up on a phone or computer at my.roku.com, not with the TV remote.
Create the PIN
- On a phone or computer, go to my.roku.com and sign in.
- Under My Account, find PIN/Parental controls.
- Choose Create a PIN and type 4 numbers.
Make the TV ask for it
- Still on my.roku.com, under Device settings, choose PIN/Parental controls.
- Pick "Subscribe, rent or buy shows and movies, or add apps." This is the safest choice.
- Choose Save.
What the PIN does not stop
- Buying straight from a streaming service. Roku says subscriptions bought directly from a service (not through Roku) do not have PIN protection. Ask each service about its own protection.
- A second Roku account. If the house has more than one Roku account, each needs its own PIN. Roku suggests linking every Roku to one account.
- The Roku website and phone app don't ask for the PIN.
Check what's being paid for
At my.roku.com, check your account's subscriptions list to see what goes through Roku.
